Shade Rupe – 35mm Forever http://35mmforever.com 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, and 70mm theaters around the world Wed, 13 Mar 2024 03:53:49 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.4.3 SHELLEY THEATRE http://35mmforever.com/shelley-theatre/ Mon, 26 Apr 2021 08:46:07 +0000 http://35mmforever.com/?p=955 The Shelley Theatre is the oldest surviving theatre in Bournemouth. It was originally built in 1866 as a private theatre in the home of Sir Percy Florence Shelley – son of the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, and novelist Mary Shelley. It quickly became central to the local arts scene, with Robert Louis Stevenson and Henry Irving among those who trod the boards there!

The Shelley Theatre Trust formed in 2014 with a vision to restore the seriously dilapidated building, and create in it an Arts centre with a full programme of performance and activities for the local community. Through this we aim to preserve the remarkable heritage of our theatre, and uphold its legacy as a cultural hub in the Boscombe community.

PRESENT DAY
We now present a full year-round programme of entertainment in two performance spaces, including plays; musical theatre; dance; children’s theatre; stand-up comedy; films; concerts and live music gigs.

We are in the process of renovating the building as funding allows. When you first step in, you’ll see the exposed brickwork where the plaster has fallen off, but look a little deeper and the magic within the place begins to reveal itself, the incredible character and history in every corner….pay us a visit and find out for yourself!

Loew’s Jersey undergoing $72 million restoration! http://35mmforever.com/loews-jersey-undergoing-72-million-restoration/ Thu, 25 Feb 2021 15:23:41 +0000 http://35mmforever.com/?p=908 The gorgeous 1929 Loew’s Jersey theater, proudly projecting 35mm, is undergoing a massive renovation that will include live events as well as many more film projections. It’s already a glorious pad. It will look quite different we assume though most hopefully will retain so much of the neighborhood movie palace feel we love.

We will. When you’re seeing analog and you’re an analog being, there is an emotional connectivity, and there are emotive responses that you just don’t get when you’re looking at pixels.”

Is it time to bring back the projectionist? http://35mmforever.com/is-it-time-to-bring-back-the-projectionist/ Mon, 04 Jan 2016 09:01:56 +0000 http://35mmforever.com/?p=614 Then there’s the texture of the image itself. Rather than the neat grids of pixels you get with digital, the colours on a film strip come from layers of microscopic silver halide crystals, the positions of which differ from frame to frame. That’s why a static digital shot of an unchanging scene looks frozen, while on film, you’re always keenly aware that time is passing.

“Digital might be more predictable, but the problem is you can no longer see the best version of the film,” Nolan told the group. “In other words, cinemas are taking the McDonald’s approach: yeah, it’s all a bit worse, but at least it’s consistent.”

The Telegraph: Bring back the projectionists!
